#1 Hello all, New to the forum. I have searched a little for what is needed to build a cafe racer, and am looking for a little guidance. I have a 1981 XS 650 special that I have been sitting on for a while. And think its time to make something out of it. Once I get it running that is.

The idea was dreamt up after the donor for the project, a 1980 Yamaha XS650 Special, was acquired from a friend. The XS had been sitting neglected but Hoshi-san saw potential in the bike thanks to a recently rebuilt engine. To ensure it had enough grunt for the race track Hoshi-san kicked things off with a few performance upgrades.

The XS650 was treated to a full rebuild with a 700 cc Hoos Racing kit, a ported head, upgraded cams, and nickel plating on the outside.
